The Sony tour (2.5 hours) is great - learned a lot about the history of Sony, including the mergers, movies, and locations. The tour around the lot was extensive - saw Mark Cuban entering the Shark Tank set. Visited a wing of props (from the show Outlander to the movie Ghostbusters), saw interesting short film (in the same room where producer see first cuts) on the history of Sony, and visited the sets of Jeopardy (including the box in back of contestants to raise and lower their height) and Wheel of Fortune (including the gift room - years ago, had to spent earnings on items here). The only downside to the tour was the hour visiting the photographer (everyone leaves with his/her picture - better pictures can be taken with cell phone) and souvenir shop stop. All in all, it was a great experience.

We did the tour on the same day as Paramount, having done WB's and Universal before. Sony's is a little more 'rough and ready'- the entrance/waiting area is in the car park, and security is a bit brisk and serious, once in though, you first get to see an area with a lot of original props from loads of films and then a short film about the history of the studio, which gets you in the mood to see more... This tour was all on foot, but we got to go into the biggest sound stage in the U.S, the scoring stage and control room, one of the Foley sound fx recording rooms, and the ADR studio. I wasn't bothered about Jeopardy or W.o.F. but you saw the outside of those stages too (I think sometimes you are shown inside) Our guide was good and knowlegeable, you do get ferried from building to building quickly though so you although you're allowed to take photos, you have to be quick! Highlights for me were the original ECTO 1 on the lot, and sitting where Spielberg apparently sits when listening to a film being scored. Highly recommended for film geeks, especially if you're interested in the production side. Free parking on site, unlike WBs and Paramount who both charge extra.

We did both the Sony and Warner Brothers studio tours. Both had their + / - We liked the Sony tour a little more as the Warner Brothers tour seemed not as intimate as they just drove large groups on carts around the lot seeing the outside of different buildings. Our Sony tour guide was amazing, taking us inside lots of areas - large studio buildings, recording studios, Jeopardy Set and answering lots of our questions. Plus, our tour guide just happened to be teen 80s/90s movie star Keith Coogan ("Adventures in Babysitting)! If you go on the tour and can see when Keith Mitchell (his real name) is leading tours, I highly recommend going with him. The negative with Sony, was that you go to see one area where they had props from movies and the Seinfeld set, but you only got to be there for about 10 minutes. The same for the gift shop. This felt very rushed. As for Warner Brothers, their prop area and interactive section after the guided tour is way better. If you like Harry Potter, Friends, Big Bang Theory, DC Comics, etc, you will love this area at Warner Brothers and you get to spend as much time as you want here. In the end, we were glad we went on both tours since both had great things to see. So, if you have the time and $$, go see both. And if you go on the Sony tour - ask for Keith!
